Orange You Glad There’s A New Orangerie?

It is very fitting that one of my first blog posts on this brand spanking new website of mine be dedicated to Designers Guild orangerie: one of my most favourite fabrics of all time.

orangerie

While it gives the first impression of a stuffy and outdated floral, orangerie is actually a beloved fabric in the design community. Us decorators love it for its modern punch of colour and the bold feminine vibe it lends to any space, whether it be in the form of a toss cushion or as wallpaper.

draper orangerie

I first used orangerie a few years ago for a Dorothy Draper Holiday story I produced for Style At Home. The print was a way to reference one of Draper’s hallmark’s, the use of colourful chintz fabrics and and it also served as the inspiration for the imaginative flocked white tree embedded with dozens of silk blooms.

orangerie in family room

After the shoot I tucked the cushions away until we moved into my home, where they currently live on my sapphire blue sectional. The cotton is a super practical fabric for family life and I love how it brings in so many different hues into the space.

orangerie amethyst

Now that you know how much I love orangerie, you can understand my excitement that Designers Guild has introduced some new colourways to the popular print. I am pretty much obsessed with the amethyst colourway, with it’s pretty purples, blues and greens. Just a small touch of this print would bring such a sweet sense of sophistication to any room! Imagine a lumbar pillow on hotel-style linens in a fluffy white bedroom- ah perfection!
