Happy Hanukkah!
Tonight we light the first candle on the menorah as we welcome the holiday of Hanukkah! I had a great time producing a mod Hanukkah party shoot for Style At Home, which was published in the most recent December issue.
I had produced Hanukkah content in the past (check it out in my portfolio under ‘editorial highlights’), but the idea behind this story was a more modern take on the holiday with some craft projects readers could try on their own.
My friend and client Ellie was amazing, letting me turn her stylish condo into a Hanukkah wonderland. Ellie is the great-granddaughter of the founder of ELTE , so her place was filled with gorgeous pieces from ELTE and ELTE MKT and made for the perfect party setting.
We created several DIY projects, including a Hanukkah bush, homemade wrapping paper and cards, and a deconstructed menorah to provide inspiration for a modern take on the holiday.
I worked on these projects in my dining room, where a flurry of blue and white ribbon, paper and crafting supplies took over for the weeks leading up to the shoot.
Photographed by the wonderful Stacey Brandford, we invited some of Ellie’s friends to sip some drinks and nibble on the hallmark treats of the holiday, such as latkes Ellie’s mom Alison fried up and mini sufganiyot my mom whipped up. There were also sugar cookies I baked, as well as a beautiful bundt cake made in this gorgeous pan from Williams Sonoma.
I will be presenting some of these ideas on the Marilyn Denis Show this Thursday so make sure to tune in at 10am to get inspired for your own Hanukkah party!
