Colour Class at Farrow and Ball
The other week I was invited to Farrow and Ball’s showroom on Yonge street to take part in a colour therapy class. I actually hadn’t even been into the showroom since they moved a couple blocks north from their original spot (which was dangerously close to Black Camel), so it was a perfect excuse to go visit and see the new colours and new space.
And did I mention already that this wasn’t your typical kumbaya kind of colour therapy class? It was led by the Toronto-born and NYC-based fashion designer Tanya Taylor, whose work is celebrated for her bold use of colour, whimsical prints and playful feminine flair (and her accommodating approach to plus sizes to boot!)*
After selecting our colours, we sat down to canvases prepped and waiting for us to start expressing ourselves. Tanya started with prompts, like “paint with the colour of your grandmother” and “the colour of your first kiss” and we all ended up with different pieces representing the emotions these elements evoked.
I didn’t quite finish mine (I ran out of black paint) but I had so much fun working with the gorgeous colours, including the new pink hue rangwali, a bright shade which is named after the powder thrown during Holi, the Indian festival of colour.
It was so much fun seeing what the other participants came up with too after listening to the same prompts. Art is truly so individual!
Thanks so much to Farrow and Ball and Tanya Taylor for having me to the beautiful showroom (hello gorgeous herringbone floors!) and check out the latest nine new colours from Farrow and Ball here.
*Fun fact: Tanya’s soho loft is featured in Trouvaille’s #SomethingLovely series alongside other stylish abodes including my own. What a fab ego boost to be on the same page as a well-respected designer who has been worn by the likes of Michelle Obama and Beyonce!
